🏰 History & Architecture

The origins of the castle date back to 1322, when Marquis Teodoro I of Monferrato granted the Pocaparte family permission to build a fortified residence.
Over the centuries, the structure evolved from a defensive stronghold into an elegant noble residence. Among its most distinguished owners were the Pico Gonzaga, who in the 17th century obtained the title of Counts of Uviglie, and later the Cacherano di Bricherasio family, known for their contribution to the foundation of FIAT.

🌳 The Historic Park

Surrounded by a 56,000 m² centuries-old park, the estate offers a deeply immersive natural experience. Recognized by the Piedmont Region as a “Historic Botanical Garden,” the park is home to monumental trees, including majestic Cedars of Lebanon, a 400-year-old weeping beech, and a rare fastigiate yew.
Within the grounds stands the small Church of Sant’Eusebio, which houses the crypt of the Pico Gonzaga Counts.

🍷 Wine Cellars & Winemaking Heritage

Castello di Uviglie boasts a winemaking tradition dating back to 1491, making it one of the oldest wine estates in Piedmont.
The historic cellars, located beneath the noble wing of the castle, preserve ancient barrels, traditional cooper tools and a private bottle collection.

Today, wine production — managed by the Bonzano family — focuses on indigenous grape varieties such as Barbera, Grignolino and Albarossa, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and innovation.
